A beautiful and rich retelling of Beauty and the Beast (one of my favourite fairytales), A Court of Thorns & Roses by Sarah J Maas centres on Feyre who, by a treaty, has to live with a High Fae named Tamlin after she killed one of his friends during her hunt for food.
Feyre learns something more sinister during her stay and develops something for Tamlin, surprising herself since she has no love for the fae in general.
She will learn to love and overcome her hate.
The writing is rich and hooks you in. Clearly magic. Each chapter leaves you craving for more with the stakes growing higher and higher. I’m glad that Tamlin doesn’t comes across as a typical brooding YA male. There’s something refreshing about his character and backstory. Well-developed and complex characters, both Feyre and Tamlin are equals in their main roles and strength.
And yes, there are quite a few…intimate scenes that untame your heart. This book is one that you want to read over and over again. If you love fairytales and retellings, you will love A Court of Thorns and Roses.
Can’t wait for A Court of Mist and Fury (coming in May 2016).
